Lesley Jeffries

Professor of English Language, University of Huddersfield, UK

Lesley Jeffries is Professor of English Language and Linguistics at the University of Huddersfield where she has worked since 1990. Her publications include the Perspectives on the English Language series which she co-edits with her colleague, Dan McIntyre and in which she has two authored books (Discovering Language: The Structure of Modern English and Critical Stylistics). Her research in stylistics and discourse analysis has focussed on poetry (The Language of Twentieth Century Poetry) and non-literary texts (Textual Construction of the Female Body) and she has recently been working on the language of politics and political reporting.

Her work has been supported by AHRC grants, most recently as Principal Investigator on the Hansard at Huddersfield project (AH/R007136/1) which starts in 2018 and will produce a user-friendly searchable online version of Hansard, which reports on all the proceedings of the UK Parliament. She was Chair of PALA (Poetics and Linguistics Association) from 2007-2010 and is on the editorial board of a number of journals.
